Bollaram Army Arms Theft Sparks Concern

The theft of a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the Madras Regiment in Bollaram, Secunderabad Cantonment, has triggered serious concerns within the defence establishment. According to the complaint, 12 firearms, 21 magazines, a night-vision device and 1,912 rounds of ammunition were stolen on the night of August 30. The scale of the theft has raised questions over how such a large quantity of military equipment could be removed from a secure establishment. The Bollaram police have registered a case and launched an investigation, while Military Intelligence officials are also examining the incident.

Investigators are exploring several possibilities, including the involvement of insiders and the possibility that the stolen weapons were intended to be moved out of the premises later. Search operations are being conducted across the regiment and surrounding cantonment areas. A suspicious vehicle reportedly seen in the vicinity around the time of the incident is also being examined as part of the investigation. Police have questioned a suspected person following leads from the investigation, while a magazine was reportedly recovered during searches near the perimeter. The Army has placed the regiment on high alert, reviewed weapons and ammunition records, restricted access and strengthened security measures. Further action against officials or personnel will depend on the findings of the investigation.
