The state government has issued orders constituting a 16-member state-level committee to revise the existing guidelines for providing 25% free admissions to children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections in private unaided schools. The initiative is being taken under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education Act, 2009. The committee will review the existing framework and recommend necessary amendments to ensure that the provisions are implemented effectively and in accordance with the latest legal directions.
The government said the guidelines would be revised in line with the Supreme Court judgment delivered on January 13 this year and the directions issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The committee will be headed by the Director of School Education, Sameem Ansaria, as Chairperson. Orders to this effect were issued by School Education Department Principal Secretary J. Syamala Rao. The committee is expected to examine the existing provisions and suggest measures for their systematic and effective implementation.
