Big Infrastructure Boost for Vizag Port.. Centre Approves Rs 334.89 Crore Elevated Corridor

The Union Government has approved a major infrastructure project at Visakhapatnam Port aimed at improving cargo movement and easing traffic congestion. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has formally approved the construction of an internal elevated corridor at an estimated cost of Rs 334.89 crore under the Visakhapatnam Port Authority. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced the approval in Delhi on Tuesday.

The proposed elevated corridor will stretch approximately 3.584 kilometres, connecting Convent Junction with the dock area. Once completed, it is expected to reduce prolonged traffic congestion at nine major railway level crossings in the port area. Construction will be carried out without disrupting regular port operations, with the project targeted for completion within 30 months. Sonowal said the project aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and will strengthen the port’s cargo-handling and maritime connectivity, supporting the broader goal of building a developed India.
