Bengaluru is planning to introduce a new parking policy that could make parking on residential roads a paid facility. Under the proposed system, motorists may have to obtain an annual parking permit, with the fee expected to go up to ₹25,000 per year.
The policy may also introduce hourly parking charges on other city roads. Cars could be charged ₹40 per hour on Category C roads, ₹60 on Category B roads and ₹80 on Category A roads. For two-wheelers, the proposed charges are ₹20, ₹30 and ₹40 respectively. Monthly off-street parking charges are also proposed in the range of ₹1,000 to ₹4,000. Motorists using these facilities between 8 PM and 8 AM may be eligible for a 50% discount on monthly rates.
