Bathukamma is one of Telangana’s most distinctive cultural festivals and is closely associated with flowers, nature and women’s traditions. The celebrations take place during the autumn season when a variety of seasonal flowers bloom. Women gather with family members and friends, arrange colourful flowers into the traditional Bathukamma shape, sing folk songs and celebrate together.
The nine-day celebrations in 2026 are scheduled to begin with Engili Poola Bathukamma on October 10 and continue through Atukula Bathukamma, Muddapappu Bathukamma, Nane Biyyam Bathukamma, Atla Bathukamma, Aligina Bathukamma, Vepakayala Bathukamma and Venna Muddala Bathukamma. The festivities culminate with Saddula Bathukamma on October 18. On the final day, families traditionally prepare different varieties of offerings and women carry the decorated Bathukammas in processions before immersing them in water while singing traditional Bathukamma songs.
