People from Naxal-affected areas of Bastar, along with families of security personnel, have reportedly expressed their displeasure over remarks attributed to former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders. Referring to the difficulties they have faced because of Naxal violence, they reportedly questioned whether political leaders stand with the affected communities or with the Naxals. They also said that the impact of Naxalism has significantly declined in Bastar and that local people want peace and stability.
The residents have also reportedly objected to what they described as sympathetic views towards Naxalism expressed by some leaders on social media. They stressed that the suffering of families directly affected by Naxal violence should not be overlooked during political debates. However, the claims regarding the leaders’ statements and the reactions from Bastar residents should be treated as allegations until the specific statements and responses are officially verified.
