The investigation into alleged irregularities in donations received by the Ayodhya Ram Temple has entered a crucial phase, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitting its preliminary report to the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday. The report has sparked interest over whether the SIT has cleared Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai of the allegations or held him accountable. Political and administrative circles are also closely watching the possibility of a restructuring of the temple trust, irrespective of the final findings.
According to sources, the SIT has reportedly identified shortcomings in the management and monitoring of donations received by the trust. Concerns have also been raised regarding the handling and supervision of valuable assets and offerings. The preliminary report was submitted by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad. The SIT stated that its investigation is still ongoing and that further evidence is being examined. The Uttar Pradesh government had constituted the SIT on June 13 following allegations of misuse and mismanagement of donations. The final report is expected to be submitted within the next 10 to 15 days.
