Andhra Pradesh is set to take another major step towards providing houses to economically weaker families, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu scheduled to lay the foundation stone for 3 lakh houses along with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Burripalem, Tenali constituency. According to the state government, the coalition government has provided 5.50 lakh houses to beneficiaries during its 28 months in office, while construction is underway to complete another 4.20 lakh houses by March. The Centre has also recently allocated 3 lakh houses to Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0.
The programme will also mark the launch of a pilot project using 3D concrete printing technology for house construction. The Centre’s Ministry of Rural Development, CSIR-CBRI Roorkee and the Andhra Pradesh government are collaborating on the project, under which 177 houses will be constructed in Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem villages at an estimated cost of ₹14 crore. The technology is aimed at reducing construction time, labour requirements and waste while maintaining quality and durability. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit Burripalem in the morning, lay the foundation for the 3D-printed houses, interact with beneficiaries and address a public meeting.
