The Andhra Pradesh government has reorganised the Zilla Parishad system in line with the state’s new district structure. Orders have been issued to replace the existing 13 Zilla Parishads with 28 new Zilla Parishads. Separate Zilla Parishads have also been sanctioned for the newly formed Markapuram and Polavaram districts. The move is aimed at aligning the local administrative structure with the state’s expanded district framework.
The government has also approved 15 additional posts of Zilla Parishad CEOs and Deputy CEOs to support the new setup. The tenure of the existing Zilla Parishad governing bodies will end on September 24. The new system of 28 Zilla Parishads is expected to come into effect immediately after the completion of the current bodies’ tenure, marking a significant change in district-level local administration across Andhra Pradesh.
