AP Local Body Elections: High Court Hearing Underway

The Andhra Pradesh High Court heard a matter concerning the 34 per cent reservation for Backward Classes in local body elections. Advocate and retired judge V. Eshwaraiah filed an implead petition seeking to be included as a party in the case concerning the government order providing the reservation. During Monday’s hearing, Eshwaraiah appeared before the court and presented his arguments.

The government’s counsel raised objections to the implead petition and informed the court that a detailed counter would be filed. The High Court directed the government to file its counter in both the main petition and the implead petition. The court adjourned the matter to October 1 for further hearing. Separately, the High Court has already reserved its judgment on petitions challenging the government’s 34 per cent BC reservation orders.
