The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a new welfare scheme, “Nethanna Bharosa”, to support handloom workers across the state. Under this scheme, eligible weavers will receive financial assistance of ₹25,000 each. The scheme will be officially launched on August 7 on the occasion of National Handloom Day. The government has allocated ₹250 crore in the state budget for its implementation.
The Handlooms and Textiles Department has identified around 54,000 eligible weavers across the state. Workers with their own looms will also be eligible for the scheme. The government is also considering extending the benefit to workers involved in allied activities such as spinning yarn and dyeing. Along with this, the state is already providing free electricity up to 200 units for handloom workers and 500 units for power looms, benefiting around one lakh families.
