AP Cabinet Approves Social Media Influencer Policy

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has reportedly approved a dedicated policy for social media influencers. The state government is understood to have studied influencer policies implemented in five other states before framing its approach. The proposed policy is expected to address remuneration for influencers and their participation in government promotional campaigns. The government is also examining the payment structures followed by other states.

Under the proposed framework, influencers may be divided into different categories based on their social media follower count. Similar state-level policies have used parameters such as verified subscriber bases, views and platform-specific reach to determine categories and payments. The final Andhra Pradesh guidelines are expected to provide clarity on eligibility, influencer categories and remuneration.
