The Andhra Pradesh government has started selling onions at a subsidised price of ₹35 per kg through Rythu Bazaars to provide relief to consumers amid rising onion prices. The initiative is being launched initially across Rythu Bazaars in Vijayawada, with the APIIC Rythu Bazaar serving as the launch venue.
Under the scheme, each family can purchase up to 2 kg of subsidised onions per month by producing an Aadhaar card or ration card. The government said the programme may be expanded to Rythu Bazaars across the state based on public demand and market conditions.
