The Andhra Pradesh High Court’s Division Bench has dismissed a petition filed by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) seeking the deployment of central forces to provide security during local body elections in the state. The party had requested directions to the State Election Commission to ensure central security personnel were stationed at polling and vote-counting centres. However, a single-judge bench rejected the plea on the 16th of this month, prompting the YSRCP to challenge the decision before the Division Bench.
After hearing the fresh petition, the High Court’s Division Bench also dismissed the YSRCP’s request. The decision marks another setback for the party’s effort to secure central forces at polling and counting centres during the local body elections. The development has brought renewed attention to security arrangements for the upcoming local polls in Andhra Pradesh.
