A 38 year old woman died tragically after a sharp kite string, commonly known as manja, became entangled around her neck while she was riding a scooter in Hubballi, Karnataka, on Thursday. Vidya Manjunath Gowda, a resident of Bharat Nagar, worked as a laboratory technician. She had returned home for lunch and was travelling back to work at around 1 p.m. when the incident occurred in Shankar Shankar Colony. The sharp string became tightly wrapped around her neck, causing a severe cut to her throat. She collapsed at the scene, leaving passers by shocked.
Local residents rushed to help Vidya and attempted to take her to a hospital, but she died on the way. The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers posed by sharp kite strings used during kite flying. Hubballi City Police Commissioner Bhushan G. Borase said the police would identify and arrest those responsible for flying kites with the manja involved in the incident. The police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
