Andhra Pradesh Seeks KRMB Intervention to Stop Telangana Irrigation Projects

The Andhra Pradesh government has urged the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to stop the construction of irrigation projects being undertaken by Telangana. It has also requested that the issue be included in the agenda of the KRMB meeting scheduled for October 1.

In its letter, the Andhra Pradesh government sought action against the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, as well as several other projects, including the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Achampet Lift Irrigation Scheme, Makthal–Narayanpet–Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme, and the Ralampadu Reservoir under the Jawahar Nettempadu project.It also objected to increasing the capacity of the Gudendoddi Balancing Reservoir and to the proposed Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme (Buddhamadhavaram) on the Pulichintala backwaters, along with the Janpahad, Bettetanda, Nakkagudem and Muktyala projects.

The Andhra Pradesh government has further asked the KRMB to issue directions for sharing the 811 TMC of Krishna River water allocated to the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh in a 512:299 ratio, with 512 TMC going to Andhra Pradesh and 299 TMC to Telangana. The same 66:34 division has been reported as part of Andhra Pradesh's current demand before the KRMB.
