Anak Krakatau Erupts in Indonesia, Disrupts 301 Flights Amid Massive Ash Cloud

Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau volcano erupted, releasing a large amount of volcanic ash into the atmosphere. The ash plume reportedly rose to altitudes of around 20,000 to 50,000 feet, raising concerns over aviation safety in the region. Authorities closed six airports, including airports serving Jakarta, following the eruption. Air traffic was significantly affected, with a total of 301 flight services, including 58 international flights, reportedly disrupted.

Anak Krakatau has a history of causing major natural disasters. In 2018, an eruption of the volcano triggered a tsunami that struck coastal areas around the Sunda Strait, killing around 430 people. The latest eruption has once again highlighted the potential risks posed by the volcano, particularly to aviation and communities in nearby areas.
