The Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR) is set to have 17 interchanges along its 189.93-km, six-lane access-controlled corridor. The interchanges will serve as the designated entry and exit points for vehicles. The plan includes eight double-trumpet interchanges at locations where the ORR crosses national highways, eight rotary interchanges at state and district road crossings, and one single-trumpet interchange. The proposed locations include Kanchikacherla, Duggiralapadu, Mylavaram, Agiripalli, Pottipadu, Chalivendrapalem, Narakoduru, Pothuru-Lingayapalem and other key points around Vijayawada, Guntur and Amaravati.
The number of interchanges was earlier proposed at 19, but two were subsequently removed as part of cost-reduction measures. The proposal to provide service roads on the outer side of the ORR was dropped, while a 17.5-km six-lane connecting road from near Tenali to Kaza on the Chennai-Kolkata Highway was also set aside. As a result, the two interchanges planned at the beginning and end of that connecting road were removed. These changes have brought the estimated project cost down from ₹38,450 crore to ₹30,491 crore. The revised interchange plan is intended to provide controlled connectivity between the ORR and major highways and regional roads.
