AI Mistakes Guitar for Pillion Rider and Sparks Bengaluru Traffic Drama

An unusual incident involving an AI-powered traffic monitoring system has surfaced in Bengaluru. A traffic camera reportedly mistook a guitar strapped to a motorcyclist’s back for a pillion rider who was not wearing a helmet. The system then automatically generated a ₹500 challan and sent it to the account of the vehicle owner.

The rider, identified as Souvik Dutta, was travelling alone on his wife’s two-wheeler and was wearing a helmet. He was carrying a guitar on his back, which appears to have confused the AI-based camera. Dutta highlighted the error on X and tagged Bengaluru traffic police, explaining that the system had treated his guitar as a second passenger. Police responded by advising him to have the wrongly issued fine cancelled. The incident later attracted widespread attention online, with users sharing humorous comments and memes about the AI’s unusual interpretation of the guitar. The episode has also sparked discussion about the need for human verification when automated traffic systems generate penalties.
