The Adani Group has reportedly expressed interest in establishing a large titanium park in Srikakulam district in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC). The company has submitted a proposal to the state Industries Department outlining a planned investment of ₹16,000 crore. The project is expected to include a beach-sand mineral separation plant near Srikakulam and a value-addition facility to process ilmenite, a mineral found in coastal sands. Beach-sand deposits can contain valuable minerals such as ilmenite, rutile, garnet, sillimanite, zircon and monazite. The proposed process involves separating these minerals, refining ilmenite and using it to produce titanium pigment and, through further processing, titanium metal.
The proposed park aims to produce 2 lakh tonnes of titanium pigment and 10,000 tonnes of titanium metal annually. According to the proposal, Adani Group company Alluvial Heavy Minerals Limited has secured three APMDC leases covering 910 hectares in Gara mandal of Srikakulam district and 81 hectares in Bheemunipatnam of Visakhapatnam district, a combined area of 991 hectares. The leased areas are estimated to contain around 6.68 million tonnes of ilmenite, which the company says may be sufficient for approximately ten years. Additional mineral reserves would be required to sustain operations for 20–25 years, and the request for two more leases is reportedly under government consideration. The project’s implementation will depend on the state’s new industrial policy, incentives and the proposed beach-sand and rare-earth minerals policy. If approved and developed, it could create direct and indirect employment opportunities in North Andhra.
