Aaruhi Reddy Questions SIR Voter Deletion Claim

Social media commentator Aaruhi Reddy has questioned the claim that voter names are being removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to benefit the BJP. In a post on X, Reddy asked how election officials could know the political preferences of voters whose names are deleted from the electoral rolls. She questioned how authorities could determine whether the affected voters support the Congress or oppose the BJP, saying political preferences cannot be assumed from voter deletions. Her remarks represent her own response to the ongoing debate over the SIR exercise.

The SIR process has come under increased scrutiny following reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections on several occasions over issues related to voter registration, deletion and restoration of names, Form 6 and access to electoral-roll databases. The Election Commission has rejected suggestions of a breakdown within the poll panel, saying such inputs and differences during deliberations are part of the decision-making process and that final decisions, including those related to SIR, were taken unanimously.
