₹7,000 Crore Investment to Expand India’s LPG Pipeline Network by 1,800 km

India’s LPG supply infrastructure is set for a significant expansion. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has approved three strategically important LPG pipeline projects involving an investment of nearly ₹7,000 crore. Together, the projects will develop around 1,800 km of new pipelines across Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Goa.

The projects will be developed by state-owned GAIL (India) Limited. With their completion, India’s common-carrier LPG pipeline network is expected to grow from around 7,700 km to nearly 9,500 km, representing an increase of about 23.5%. The expanded network is expected to strengthen fuel supply infrastructure and reduce dependence on road transportation.

The three approved projects include a 556-km pipeline from Cherlapally in Telangana to Nagpur in Maharashtra, a 611-km pipeline connecting Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh with Sitarganj in Uttarakhand, and a 633-km pipeline from Shikrapur in Maharashtra to Hubballi in Karnataka through Goa.

The government had earlier approved the 2,757-km Kandla-Gorakhpur LPG pipeline, which is the longest LPG pipeline project in the country. The latest projects are expected to further improve the efficiency, reliability and reach of LPG transportation across key regions.
