A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia on Thursday morning. The tremors were felt in the Halmahera region at around 10:31 AM, causing concern among residents. The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 116 kilometers north of Ternate.
The earthquake was confirmed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and details regarding damage or casualties are yet to be fully assessed. Indonesia is known to be highly prone to seismic activity due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
