A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Leh in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday morning. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said the tremor occurred at around 6 am and the epicentre was located at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.
According to the NCS, there were no reports of casualties or property damage following the earthquake. The agency also noted that earthquakes can occur at varying depths, from near the Earth’s surface to around 700 kilometres below the ground, citing data from the US Geological Survey.
