A tragic incident occurred in the Sahara Desert region along the Algeria–Mali border, one of the harshest climates in the world, where 49 people lost their lives due to lack of water. The victims had traveled in a truck from Mali to Niger to celebrate Bakrid with their family members.
The tragedy came to light after two survivors undertook a dangerous walk across the desert and informed authorities. The truck reportedly broke down in the middle of the Sahara, leaving passengers stranded for days without water, leading to the massive loss of lives.
