Global payment gateway Visa has introduced its new Payment Passkey solution in India as an alternative to One Time Passwords (OTP) for online card transactions. The service has been launched in partnership with IDFC FIRST Bank and is currently available to selected users.
The new authentication system works on FIDO (Fast Identity Online) standards, allowing customers to verify online payments using fingerprint, facial recognition, PIN, password, or pattern instead of entering an OTP. The feature is designed to improve security while making digital payments faster and more convenient.
Visa's Payment Passkey will be supported on platforms such as Myntra, Paytm, MakeMyTrip, Tata Starbucks, Reliance Digital, EatSure, along with fintech partners including Juspay, Razorpay, PayU, Pine Labs, BillDesk, Vibmo, and M2P. The company expects the technology to enhance the overall online payment experience.
