Vehicle sales in the domestic market continued to remain strong even after the festive season. Strong demand for passenger vehicles (cars, vans, SUVs) led to a 2% rise in vehicle registrations last month compared to November 2024, according to FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations). Total retail vehicle sales stood at 32,31,526 units in November 2024 and increased to 33,00,832 units last month. Since Diwali and Dhanteras fell in late October last year, most registrations happened in November, resulting in better sales numbers, FADA explained. The GST rate cuts and retail offers from vehicle dealers also boosted buyer interest from late September.
Even after the festive season, consumers are still visiting showrooms, said FADA President C.S. Vigneshwar. FADA further stated that this year’s Rabi season has started on a positive note, and with rural sentiment and economic indicators remaining favorable, vehicle sales may continue to grow in the near term. With the weather department predicting colder-than-usual winter conditions this year, the demand for vehicles could further increase. This is expected to benefit FMCG, tractor, and rural two-wheeler markets.
