Tesla Launches Driverless Cybercab Robotaxi Service

Tesla has officially launched its Cybercab robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, marking a significant development in autonomous transportation. The service was unveiled at a special launch event, with Tesla describing the fully driverless vehicle as a major milestone in automobile history. Unlike conventional cars, the Cybercab has no steering wheel, accelerator or brake pedals and is designed to carry two passengers.

The Cybercab features a spacious interior, with only a central display and climate-control system serving as manual controls. Powered by Starlink V5 satellite connectivity, the vehicle is designed to support features such as 4K live video streaming and gaming. Tesla CEO Elon Musk described it as a “comfortable lounge on wheels.” Passengers can book the vehicle directly through the Tesla Robotaxi app, which also offers the four seat Model Y SUV option.

The Cybercab is equipped with a 48 kWh battery and is expected to offer a range of around 290–300 miles on a single charge. Tesla said its robotaxis have already covered more than one million miles without human intervention. The company is also preparing to allow businesses to purchase the vehicles and operate them through its network. The Cybercab is estimated to cost between $25,000 and $30,000, or around ₹28 lakh.
