According to the information shared with the bank, details relating to 3,897 SBI customers were affected, with approximately 3.75 lakh records reportedly exposed. The bank received alerts from the Defence Cyber Agency and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) on October 16 regarding the incident.
SBI has urged customers to remain vigilant while using digital banking services. It has warned them not to share one-time passwords (OTPs), PINs or passwords with anyone and to exercise caution when dealing with suspicious phone calls, text messages and emails. The bank has also stated that a detailed assessment of the data leak is underway and that appropriate corrective and preventive measures are being taken. Customers are advised to follow official banking communication and avoid responding to unsolicited requests for confidential information.
