Public sector iron ore producer NMDC is set to enter the coal production sector. NMDC Chairman and Managing Director Amitav Mukherjee said the company plans to begin thermal coal production from the Tokisud North Coal Mine in Jharkhand by December this year. The coal produced from the mine will be used for power generation at thermal power plants.
The company aims to sell 1 million tonnes of thermal coal from the mine to various power plants during the current financial year. The move marks NMDC’s expansion beyond iron ore and into the coal sector, with the company looking to strengthen its presence in the energy-related minerals segment.
