The Central Government’s Code on Wages, 2019 provides key protection to employees regarding timely salary payments. The law makes it mandatory for employers to pay wages on time and allows employees to approach authorities in cases of salary delays or unauthorised deductions. The objective of the code is to ensure wage security and increase accountability among employers.
According to the wage code, monthly salary employees should receive their wages by the 7th of the following month. In case of resignation, termination, or service completion, final settlements must be cleared within two working days. The code applies to all employees irrespective of their salary level and provides a mechanism to raise complaints through the Inspector cum Facilitator if employers violate wage rules.
