A major convenience is set to be introduced for Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) subscribers. From April this year, subscribers will be able to withdraw funds from their EPF accounts directly into their bank accounts using a UPI payment gateway. To enable this facility, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is developing a new mobile application, according to sources.
Under this initiative, EPF subscribers will be allowed to withdraw the majority of their EPF balance excluding certain portions through UPI directly into their linked bank accounts. The upcoming EPFO mobile app will offer UPI-based withdrawal functionality along with additional services such as passbook balance viewing. Subscribers will also be able to check the amount of EPF funds available for transfer to their bank accounts through the app.
To ensure secure transactions and seamless fund transfers, subscribers will be required to use the UPI PIN linked to their bank accounts. As part of efforts to enhance service quality and eliminate technical glitches, EPFO is currently conducting trial runs using 100 dummy accounts. The Labour Ministry is preparing to launch the new mobile application in April this year.
