A major industrial project is set to be established in Andhra Pradesh, as Waaree Energy Storage Systems Private Limited plans to invest ₹8,175 crore in a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Rambilli, Anakapalli district. The plant will focus on producing batteries used in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for power storage. The company has proposed setting up a 16 GWh lithium-ion cell factory, which will manufacture cells, battery packs, and integrated energy storage systems under one roof. The project aims to complete its first phase by July 2027 and commence commercial production thereafter. It is expected to generate employment for around 3,000 people, with the government allocating nearly 300 acres for the facility.
The company has future expansion plans to scale up production to 20 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) lithium-ion cells, along with an equal capacity of battery packs and storage systems. Waaree is already a prominent player in the clean energy sector, operating solar module manufacturing units in Gujarat and Texas, USA, with a capacity of 14.9 GW. It exports products to over 30 countries, including the USA, Canada, Italy, Türkiye, and Vietnam. With this project, the company aims to expand from solar module manufacturing into energy storage solutions, contributing to grid stability and renewable energy integration. Such integrated projects remain limited across the country.
