The Union Cabinet has approved a major incentive package of ₹1.90 lakh crore to strengthen electronics manufacturing in India, with a special focus on mobile phones and semiconductor industries. The initiative aims to expand domestic production, attract investments and establish India as a global electronics manufacturing hub. Under this plan, mobile manufacturing is expected to reach a production value of nearly ₹39 lakh crore over the next five years, creating around 60,000 direct employment opportunities.
The government is also focusing on developing a strong semiconductor ecosystem in the country. As part of the initiative, India is expected to have its first semiconductor fabrication plant by 2028. The move is aimed at reducing dependence on imports, boosting advanced technology capabilities and supporting the growth of the electronics sector.
