Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s leading IT services company, has announced that it plans to hire around 25,000 freshers in the financial year 2026–27. The company stated that this number could increase depending on business demand. In the 2025–26 financial year, TCS provided employment opportunities to approximately 44,000 freshers; however, it has reduced the hiring target to 25,000 for the current year. Despite the reduction, the figure is still considered significant given the current market conditions. Over the past three years, the company has consistently hired more than 40,000 freshers annually and its recruitment strategy may vary based on business requirements, said CEO and Managing Director K. Krithivasan.
Additionally, it was revealed that the company laid off around 12,000 employees during the 2025–26 financial year. However, Krithivasan dismissed reports suggesting that these layoffs were due to artificial intelligence. He clarified that the decision was part of a restructuring process involving senior-level employees. He also explained that it typically takes around nine months of training to prepare a fresher for a full-time role, whereas experienced professionals can immediately contribute to projects. He assured that employees who demonstrate strong performance will not face any career-related issues within the company.
