Major Defence Deal: BDL to Supply 160 Precision-Guided Weapons to IAF

The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹810.79 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force. The agreement was signed on September 23 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category. The weapons have been designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), with BDL undertaking their production.

SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision-guided glide weapon that can be deployed from platforms including the Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30 MKI. According to the Defence Ministry, the system is designed to neutralise enemy airfields from a long stand-off range. Delivery is scheduled for 2027-28 and 2028-29, and the system will have 60% indigenous content, along with further indigenisation of key subsystems.
