President Droupadi Murmu will formally inaugurate the Lakhpati Didi Mela at 11:30 a.m. on the 15th of this month. Inspired by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission, the event aims to support the government’s goal of empowering six crore women as ‘Lakhpati Didis’ by 2029. Women from self-help groups across states and Union Territories will participate and showcase their products. With more than 1,500 women entrepreneurs expected to take part, the mela will provide their products with access to a national-level market.
The mela will bring together India’s diverse cultural heritage, featuring Punjab’s Phulkari, Jammu and Kashmir’s Pashmina, Telangana’s Ikat and Telia Rumal, along with handicrafts, Meenakari work and Dokra art from across the country. Fifty dedicated food stalls will serve traditional dishes from different states. A special 16-foot-tall installation titled ‘Shakti – The Spirit of Lakhpati Didi’ has also been created to symbolise the collective strength and achievements of women.
