

Indian equity markets closed in positive territory on Friday, breaking a two-session losing streak. Positive global market cues, along with strong buying interest in IT, pharma and metal stocks, supported the benchmarks. The Sensex opened at 77,128.05, compared with the previous close of 76,933.59, and remained in the green throughout the session. It touched an intraday high of 77,357.97 before settling 330.92 points higher at 77,264.51.
The Nifty also maintained its upward momentum and closed 84.80 points higher at 24,175.65. Among the Sensex 30 constituents, TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and Titan ended with gains. ICICI Bank, UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints, ITC and Maruti Suzuki were among the major laggards. In the international market, Brent crude was trading at around $88.30 a barrel, while gold was quoted at $4,603 an ounce. The rupee stood at ₹95.39 against the US dollar.
