India has become a leading global destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) established by retail and FMCG companies, according to a report by TeamLease Digital. The report states that the country had 180 retail GCCs by the end of last year, which is 34% higher than the combined number of retail GCCs across Poland, the Philippines, Mexico, Germany, and Egypt. Global companies including Walmart Global Tech, Target, L'Oréal, AB InBev, and Tesco have already established their GCC operations in India.
The report also noted that, besides American retailers, several European companies are expanding their GCC presence in India, while firms from Japan and South Korea are also showing strong interest. TeamLease Digital CEO Neeti Sharma attributed this growth to India's large pool of skilled professionals, business-friendly policies, tax incentives, and lower infrastructure costs. Of the 180 GCCs currently operating, 130 are nano GCCs employing around 200 to 250 people, with major centres located in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, and emerging Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities such as Mangaluru.
