The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a major relief for Aadhaar card holders by introducing a free email ID update service through the new Aadhaar mobile app. Earlier, users had to pay ₹70 to update their email address. Now, the service is available free of cost from July 1 for a period of six months, allowing users to update their email ID from home without visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
According to UIDAI, nearly 2.5 lakh users updated their email IDs within the first two days of the service launch. The authority also revealed that the Aadhaar app has crossed 3.10 crore downloads within five months, with over 40 lakh mobile numbers and around 10 lakh addresses updated through the app. To update an email ID, users need to log into the Aadhaar app, select the email update option, enter their email address, verify it using an OTP, complete face authentication, and download the acknowledgement slip for future reference.
