Gold and silver prices witnessed a sharp rally last week, hitting fresh all-time highs. Market experts believe that the upward momentum may continue this week as well, with the possibility of gold crossing the ₹1.50 lakh mark. The future movement of precious metal prices will largely depend on the outcome of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
According to GoodReturns website, as of 6:30 AM on December 29, the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold stood at ₹1,41,210, while 22-carat gold was priced at ₹1,29,440. Silver was trading at ₹2,50,900 per kilogram. In the international market, gold prices surged by 3.77% last week to touch an all-time high of $4,584 per ounce. Silver prices recorded an even stronger rally, climbing 14.4% to reach a record high of $79.70. Due to geopolitical uncertainties and the weakening US dollar, investors are increasingly turning towards safe-haven assets such as gold and silver. In addition, strong industrial demand has enabled silver to generate higher returns compared to gold.
