A major revelation has emerged regarding Elon Musk, the head of Starlink, which is seeking to provide satellite-based internet services in India. An international media report has claimed that Musk personally ordered a slowdown of the Starlink satellite network, disrupting drone operations in Ukraine. The report cited two US officials and other sources familiar with the matter.
According to the sources, the deliberate reduction in network speed caused concern in Ukraine and confusion within the US administration. Ukrainian drones reportedly lost operational momentum amid developments in US-Russia relations under President Donald Trump. Earlier reports suggested that Musk had imposed restrictions on Starlink communication equipment used by Ukraine in its war against Russia, but he denied those claims.
Musk had previously stated that Starshield, the military-focused version of Starlink, remained under the control of the US government. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have also clarified that they did not issue any orders to restrict Starlink services. They stated that the US wanted Ukraine to succeed and denied involvement in the reported slowdown.
