French automobile manufacturer Citroën is preparing to revive its iconic 2 CV in a modern avatar. The company unveiled a new concept based on the 2 CV at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, with reports suggesting that the model could be offered in hatchback and pickup versions. First introduced in 1948, the original 2 CV gained worldwide recognition for its affordable price, simple design and practical performance. The new concept measures 3.76 metres in length and features rounded headlamps, a curved roofline, an 8-inch touchscreen, spacious seats, a fabric sunroof and a removable storage basket.
Citroën aims to keep the car’s weight close to one tonne to control battery and manufacturing costs. The model is expected to be electric, although details about battery capacity, driving range and charging time have not yet been announced. Its estimated starting price in Europe could be around €15,000, or approximately ₹16 lakh, but the price and launch timeline for India remain unconfirmed. Meanwhile, Citroën’s parent company, Stellantis, plans to invest an additional ₹4,000 crore in India, targeting total investments of ₹15,000 crore by 2030.
