To reduce the burden of crude oil imports, the central government is focusing on a new alternative fuel strategy. It plans to blend 15% isobutanol with diesel to improve energy security and reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted this initiative.
Since ethanol cannot be directly blended with diesel, efforts are being made to convert ethanol into isobutanol. Officials said pilot projects have shown promising results. This biofuel is expected to produce lower emissions, improve engine efficiency, and also provide additional income opportunities for farmers by using agricultural waste.
