State-owned telecom operator BSNL has introduced free insurance and cyber-fraud protection for customers opting for select prepaid plans. The company has partnered with The Oriental Insurance Company to provide accidental-death coverage of up to ₹1 lakh and cyber-fraud protection of up to ₹10,000 with the STV 202 and STV 2449 plans. The insurance benefit is bundled with the eligible recharge, so subscribers do not have to pay a separate premium.
The STV 202 plan offers 300 minutes of voice calls, 5GB of data and 100 SMS with 30 days of validity. The STV 2449 plan comes with 365 days of validity, unlimited voice calls, 2GB of data per day and 100 SMS per day. The insurance-linked plans were introduced from October 1, 2026. After an eligible recharge, the policy is activated automatically, with policy details sent to the subscriber through SMS. The coverage is subject to the insurer’s terms and conditions.
