

The Centre has dismissed reports suggesting that users could soon be charged for UPI transactions. The Finance Ministry clarified that there will be no additional fee burden on ordinary UPI users. The government reiterated that there is currently no proposal to impose charges directly on users for making UPI payments, bringing relief to millions of people who rely on digital transactions every day.
PhonePe CEO had also earlier clarified that users would not be charged directly for UPI transactions. With UPI becoming one of India’s most widely used digital payment systems, reports about possible charges had raised concerns among users. The Centre’s latest clarification makes it clear that UPI users will not face any additional financial burden at present.
