India's automobile industry recorded strong growth during the first quarter (April–June) of the 2026-27 financial year. Passenger vehicle wholesale sales (dispatches from manufacturers to dealers) reached a record 12,73,811 units, the highest ever first quarter figure. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), this marks a 25.9% increase compared to 10,11,884 units sold during the same period last year.
SIAM stated that strong domestic demand helped drive the growth despite challenges such as the West Asia crisis and supply chain disruptions. During the April June quarter, two wheeler wholesale sales rose 20.3% to 56,28,675 units from 46,77,990 units a year earlier. Three wheeler sales also registered a record 2,14,339 units, reflecting a 29.7% increase.
