GMR Airports Ltd. (GAL) is exploring new business opportunities in real estate, land development and related sectors. As part of this strategy, the company has established a subsidiary named GMR Aero Realty Ltd. (GARL) on October 13. The new entity has a paid-up share capital of ₹1 crore, divided into 10 lakh equity shares with a face value of ₹10 each. The subsidiary has not yet commenced operations and will focus on exploring real estate development and other related business opportunities.
In a separate initiative, GMR Airports has partnered with international logistics company Aramex to expand cargo services at airports operated by GMR. The collaboration aims to strengthen Aramex’s operations and support international freight movement, particularly for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The two companies will explore opportunities to develop dedicated truck docks, cargo inspection systems and cargo-handling spaces near express cargo terminals. They will also discuss the possibility of establishing warehouses close to terminals with dedicated access to the airport airside. The implementation of these proposals will depend on final agreements, investments and project timelines.
GMR’s existing airport infrastructure is expected to support this expansion strategy. According to the company, GMR-operated airports handled more than 1.3 million tonnes of cargo during the 2025–26 financial year. Delhi, Hyderabad and Goa airports have cargo facilities, while Hyderabad serves as an important hub for pharmaceutical exports. By focusing on land development, warehousing and cargo infrastructure around airports, GMR could expand its non-aeronautical revenue streams. However, details of specific projects to be undertaken by the newly formed real estate subsidiary have not yet been disclosed.
