Amazon Faces Another Layoff Shock

Tech giant Amazon has announced another round of job cuts, this time affecting its Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) division. This marks the company’s second major workforce reduction after it eliminated around 16,000 jobs globally in January. However, Amazon has not disclosed the exact number of employees impacted by the latest layoffs.

According to company officials, Amazon has been working on advanced AI models for several years and is now restructuring its teams to focus more on AI projects that deliver greater value to customers. The company clarified that the move does not indicate a slowdown in AI development but is aimed at using resources more efficiently for key projects.

The AGI division has also witnessed major leadership changes in recent months. Online reports suggest that teams under AGI Data Services Vice President Adeeb Shana and AGI Information Vice President Vishal Sharma were among those affected. Despite the layoffs, Amazon continues to invest heavily in AI, including generative AI services through AWS and the development of Nova foundation models.
