The state government has intensified efforts to establish an aircraft manufacturing facility. The project is being planned for the undivided Anantapur district. Following an agreement between Adani Aerospace and Brazil-based leading aircraft manufacturer Embraer, there is a strong possibility that Embraer will set up an aircraft manufacturing unit in India. The company has global recognition in the production of business, commercial and military aircraft, as well as aircraft components.
According to sources, Embraer is considering setting up a small and medium-sized passenger aircraft manufacturing facility in the country. Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat are currently competing to host this project. However, Andhra Pradesh is seen as a strong contender for either a main or an ancillary manufacturing unit. The state government has already expressed its readiness to allocate the required land. Officials stated that the project could attract investments worth several thousand crores of rupees, with greater clarity expected next month.
The availability of vast tracts of land and proximity to Bengaluru are being viewed as key advantages of Anantapur district. The government has already granted approvals to Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation to set up an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturing facility in the region. The company plans to invest ₹1,300 crore to establish a six-seater aircraft manufacturing unit across 500 acres, developing it as a “Sky Factory.” The project aims to introduce air taxi services by 2029. Additionally, the presence of vacant land in the surrounding areas makes the region suitable for allocating land to the proposed aircraft manufacturing facility.
The government has proposed developing a large industrial park spread across 20,000 acres, including 8,844 acres allocated for the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub near the Kodikonda check post in Sri Sathya Sai district. Land acquisition is currently underway in the region, and a portion of this land is being considered for the aircraft manufacturing project. Officials noted that the area’s proximity to the national highway and Bengaluru’s Devanahalli International Airport provides a significant logistical advantage. Land allocation will be finalized based on the requirements of the company’s representative team.
